Bio
Jeff's loves include his family and friends, nature, music, photography and his work.
His family includes wife Molly dog Elka, horse Fitch and his Mom, Dad, two sisters, four amazing nephews - one of which has started his own blog, his mother and father in law and grandmother in law :) and a host of extended family in California, Oregon and beyond.
The nature he loves is all around, and Oregon has many outrageous opportunities and challenges including mountains, rivers, desert and the wild Oregon coast, all within 2 hours of home. For Molly nd Jeff (and Elka) top pursuits when they can include backpacking, surfing and day hiking.
The music he loves is truly everywhere, with a good 100,000 plus tracks in his immediate possession, always moving between computers and other gear (he is a certified gear head). Jeff loves to see live music and has been known to see a few shows by the same bands in a row and travel a quite a bit for the love of the music back in the day.
Photography and the timeless nature of the captured image especially float Jeff's boat. The world of photoblogs has created an entirely new angle for professional and amateur shutterbugs. Jeff likes to get lost clicking through limitless amazing images from the macro to the micro - from landscapes to people to flowers and bugs - especially images captured by his friends. Jeff is founder and managing photographer of Performance Horse Photography.
Work centers around systems to integrate and enhance the political efforts of progressive organizations and people, and on the side he helps create disruptive technologies to effect change (and make money).
From 1994 to 1999, Jeff worked for campaigns for ballot measures, political action committees and candidates.
In 1999 Jeff founded Digital Campaigns, Inc., a software company developing Web tools for political campaigns. As founder and CEO, Jeff raised over $4 million in venture capital, developed the business plan, and hired and managed 16 employees who created campaign software that helped to define political campaign tools on the Web.
Digital Campaigns was the first software company to bring to reality the concept of a net-native, web centered phone and walk canvassing system for election campaigns. This concept is now central to the efforts of the largest grassroots organizations and political campaigns.
Digital Campaigns provided software for clients including Howard Dean, John Kerry, The Sierra Club, Stanford University Alumni Association, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and the Democrat National Committee.
In 2003, Jeff joined M&R Strategic Services, a New York based political consulting firm well known for its impact on major progressive campaigns. After M&R, Jeff joined Mark Wiener to help found Winning Mark, LLC a national strategy, media and communications firm based in Portland, Oregon and a partner of M&R Strategic Services. Jeff is a Partner at Winning Mark.
Today Jeff pursues his love of net native systems for managing business and campaign processes while implementing systems to manage Winning Mark and their client campaigns and while working as a partner with open source software consultants, Red Hot Penguin.
In 2006 Red Hot Penguin first released Silver Lining: software that allows WiFi hots spot owners to add value to their network and advertisers to target online advertising by offline location of the network router.
Today Silver Lining Networks is one of a handful of wifi advertising service providers and is actively growing its network. Learn more about Silver Lining.
